Oblation Run - Butt naked and frontal nudity only in U.P.

Members of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity gesture as they run naked inside the campus to mark the 100th year anniversary of University of the Philippines in suburban Quezon City, north of Manila, Wednesday, June 18, 2008. (AP Photo/Aaron Favila)

Its not the anniversary of the Alpha Phi Omega, but the fratmen who ususally run every month of December did this time for the university's 100th foundation day.

Shortly before 11 this morning about 100 of the Alpha Phi Omega fratmen of the university dashed the short distance beween Vinzon's hall to Palma hall wearing only shirts and masks covering their faces which stopped a few minutes at reporters and photographers for photo ops. The naked run started in 1977 to promote the play " Hubad na Bayani" which is also served as a homage to their frat member who died in frat rumble.

More than a form of protest, the frontal nude running is more like a reminder to the UP students as a selfless offering of the Filipinos to their country. (Well, I could dare this brods that I could do it without the mask, luckily I belong to Lambda chap. But whatever, I may look silly at 44 but I still have the boyish features ;-) - Smiley 83A)

Tax exemption for minimum wage earners passed

Sen. Francis Chiz EscuderoThe bill sponsored by Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero for exempting minimum-wage earners from paying income tax and increasing personal and additional exemptions to all taxpayers was passed in both chambers and signed into law by Pres. Gloria Arroyo.

The foregone revenue from the exemption of minimum-wage earners and the exclusion of their overtime pay, night differential, holiday pay and hazard pay from income tax including increase in personal and additional exemptions for all taxpayers is P14.25 billion. This amount is targeted to be compensated by the P15.03 billion to be earned with the 40-percent Optional Standard Deduction not only for the self-employed and professionals but also for corporations.

With the increase in personal exemptions, a salaried employee earning P10,010 a month would have an additional take-home pay of P5,671.02 a year if unmarried; P8,142.04 a year as head of the family; or P6,971.02 a year if married with four children.

An employee earning P15,026 a month would have an additional take-home pay of P6,543.10 a year if unmarried; P15,686.20 a year as head of the family; and P14,286.20 a year if married with four children. - Manila Times

12 Gay couples married in California

Del Martin, 87, and Phyllis Lyon, 84.As the California supreme court ruled in favor of gay marriage despite some groups petition for a November referendum, dozens of gay couples solenized in San Francisco by no less than its Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Unlike Massachusetts, which legalized gay marriage in 2004, California has no residency requirement for marriage licenses, and that is expected to draw a great number of out-of-state couples. The turnout could also be boosted by New York state's recent announcement that it will recognize gay marriages performed in other jurisdictions.

"These are not folks who just met each other last week and said, 'Let's get married.' These are folks who have been together in some cases for decades," said Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. "They are married in their hearts and minds, but they have never been able to have that experience of community and common humanity."

2.9 M now jobless

The latest NSO Labor Force Survey showed that number of unemployed Filipinos rose to 2.9 million from 2.7 million in April or a jobless rate of eight percent reports PhilStar.

Rough times ahead as everyone sees it. We have a never ending oil and food price increases. With the new law exempting individual taxes for the minimum wage earners and any amount for wage hike, the total cost of living far exceeds what is left for ordinary workers' income.

Joey Mead is "flagged"

Joey Mead is the cover girl of Rogue June 2008 edition. Her body is painted with what seems to be a RP national flag. The NHI commented that it is a violation of use of , well, the national flag. On the other hand lawyer Argee Guevarra said otherwise because it is not made into a dress but it is actually a paint, so no violation there.

For me, a body painted with a national symbol is more than a patriotic act, seriously. It is not a PORNO, I know one when I see one. The only thing I notice is that Joey Mead should add more weight. She looks emaciated now than 12 years ago.
